A truly exceptional marmalade is more than a breakfast companion โ€” it is the heartbeat of the table.

marmalade

A marmalade like no other

This is no ordinary Marmalade!

The Rex Union orange is found only in South Africa.

A cross between a Seville orange and a pomelo, it produces the perfect balance of bitterness and flavour essential for traditional marmalade.

The perfect citrus

The perfect Orange!

Traditional Seville-style orange marmalade cannot be made with sweet oranges.

With sweet oranges in abundance across South Africa, it may come as no surprise how rare it is to find a marmalade made without a synthetic bitter flavouring.

Made with love, care, and deep respect for what may well be the rarest orange in the world!

Every jar is therefore a tribute to this extraordinary fruit!

This marmalade is handcrafted in small batches using a secret recipe, ensuring a superb taste experience.

The Man,

A Visionary!

George Wellington Rex, a man with impeccable taste and a visionary palate, set about creating the perfect sour orangeโ€”an essential ingredient in traditional marmalade, lacking in South Africa.ย

By crossing a Pomelo with a Seville orange, he produced what we now know as theย Rex Union Orangeโ€”a fruit unique to South Africa!

Today,ย only a few Rex Union Orange trees remain. This extraordinary fruit produces one of theย worldโ€™s finest marmaladesย and is listed in the international catalogue of endangered heritage foods.

The Myth, The Legend

Marmalade fit for Royalty!

George Wellington Rex was the grandson of the infamous George Rex Esquire of Knysna.ย Rumour had it that George Rex Esq was the illegitimate son of King George. A myth or legend?ย

The Rexโ€™s possibly rubbed shoulders with English royalty and noblemen and were used to fine dining. ย By implication, this marmalade is the food of kings and queens!

A spoonful of heritage, a burst of sunshine in every bite.

A rare citrus. ย Handmade perfection.ย

Spread generously over hot buttered toast, Rex Union Orange Marmalade delivers instant deliciousness and a noticeably brighter, fruitier, more complex flavour profile than traditional Seville marmalade. ย

Fans often remark on its heritage, handmade quality, and unforgettable taste.

Bright, bitter, and delicately balanced โ€” this heritage citrus is the heart of our signature marmalade. Made by hand with thin-cut peel and just the right amount of sweetness.
