Precious Memories
Where it all began
For as long as I can remember, winter in our home meant marmalade. My parents would sit together in the kitchen, patiently transforming Rex Union oranges into their famous preserve. My father, armed with his large farm knife, would slice the oranges paper-thin by hand. My mother and he would then cook and bottle the marmalade themselves — a slow, meticulous, and deeply loving process.
These photographs capture that kitchen, the heart of our home, where tradition was lived rather than spoken.
In 2017, my mother taught me how to make this marmalade. Learning her method and care, and her deep respect for the fruit, was an extraordinary gift. This marmalade is more than a recipe; it is love in a jar, passed down through generations.
It remains one of the finest gifts she has ever given me.
